State Continuing Education Requirements
Thirty (30) U.S. states require continuing education for engineers to maintain licensure.
States That Require Pre-Approved Continuing Education Providers
Two (2) states, Florida and New York, require engineers to complete continuing education activities through approved providers.

Other States
Other than the two (2) states listed above, none of the state boards require that engineers complete PDH activities using approved providers. In fact, most states don't even have a program in place to pre-approve specific course providers or specific PDH activities. In these states, it is ultimately the engineer's responsibility to determine whether an activity meets the guidelines set forth by the state board. The state boards typically accept a PDH activity that meets the following criteria: "A course or activity whose purpose and objective are clear with a content that will maintain, improve or expand the skills and knowledge of the licensee’s field of practice”. Additionally, many states require that the course consist of "technical, ethical or managerial content relevant to the practice of engineering".
